Moreover, Wanda demonstrates her love for people through her social responsibility initiatives. She supports Cleaner, Safer, Healthier Communities as proven in her advocacy for the cleanup of the former Kmart site on S. Cedar in Lansing, Michigan. The property was a dumpsite and eyesore. Her activism included participation and discussions with the City Council, making the public-at-large aware of the issue through numerous media interviews, and rallying support for the successful sale of the building to a Fortune 500 Company – U-Haul. Wanda’s community activism resulted in an active taxpayer purchasing the property and cleaning up the land, which improved the well-being of the community. In the frosty winter of 2020, Wanda’s love for people continued, when she built relationships with the occupants of Lansing’s notorious Tent City delivering meals to families, and an occasional bottle of wine to the men and women residing there.
She also gave them Christmas cards with money and other personal necessities such as boots and gloves. Additionally, at her own expense, Wanda took immigrant children to movie theaters because they had never had the experience.
